How to Have a Fish in a RV
Why would someone want to have a fish (and a snail) traveling with them? Well for me, I actually accidentally won a fish at a fair during my travels and had to figure out a way to make it work in the Airstream, and I DID! I’ve always been obsessed with snails ever since I heard The Format song “Snails”. So of course I had to add a snail to my tank once I got it all sorted.
Here’s how I make it work:
I have a 1 gallon wall hanging tank which you can purchase on Amazon here.
I use 3, 4lb weight holding command strips which you can purchase on Amazon here.
I also use an additional “safety hook” to catch the tank if it shall fall. These hold up to 15lbs on one hook. You can purchase them on Amazon here.
How to travel with Fish Tank
To keep the fish and snail secure, I wrap a bike lock cord (purchase my exact one here) around my front seat head rest and attach a carabiner to the tank so that it hangs down from seat. This prevents a ton of movement from truck. I do have a clear storage container underneath as well as Glad Press n Seal wrap (poked with tiny holes for air) to keep the water from splashing around. I try to use things that are multipurpose, as I use the bike lock cord for my paneers when biking and I use the carabiner for climbing 😉 the only time they are used in the truck is when we are moving to a different spot. I have driven with the tank on the wall short distances but I am afraid it would fall off with all the motion in the back when driving far so this seems to work best for me!
